The weather was sunny, so I decided to see how true to color rendition of 669 could be, given these favorable conditions. Autumn was coming, so I didn't know how many days of clear outdoor weather I would have.

A trick I learned to get improved colors with 669 was to leave the prints face-up in the sun immediately after development. This seems to improve the intensity and balance of the colors. I bet 690 doesn't behave the same way.

Description : The backlighting on this low branch made the leaves glow. I had to capture it.

I was attempting to hide the telephone pole in the background behind the trunk of the tree, but forgot to account for parallax. The viewfinder on the automatic 100 is a good five inches from the lens, and when situated vertically like this, the viewfinder is to the right; hence the error. The aperature saves it from being too obvious, though.

Description : The point of focus was the red flower in the center of the shot, but looking at a blown-up scan of the print, I see that I should have stopped the aperature down for this shot to get more depth of field. The subject just isn't large enough to pull it together.

Vegetation seems to be a good test of color rendering. It's something most people are familiar with. Here I see limitations of 669 color rendering. The flower really is more vibrant in person. The green vegetation looks alright, and the fence color is dead-on. (I'm sure my cheap scanner doesn't help, either.)

The vertical lines on the bottom of the shot are scanner- induced; there's some dust on the underside of the scan bed. In the future I'll have to avoid scanning on that section of the scanner.

Description : Portland is the Rose City, and there are rosebushes up and down my block. This rather large specimen was a good eight feet deep from where I had my camera; I couldn't focus on the whole thing at once.

Description : Chula, a neighbor cat, decided to visit me while I was looking for things to shoot. Capturing a dark, moving, dappled, cat in dappled light is tough! I'm reminded why 35mm users love their autowinders and autofocus.

Description : Chula, a bit more mellow this time.

I took this photo to test my exposure settings; I should've cranked it a bit lighter. Dappled cat, dappled light...

Description : My wife planted a bunch of sunflowers in our backyard earlier this year. A few have already met their demise, but a few have been absolutely prolific, sprouting dozens of flowers as seen here.

The unevenness of the sky tone is interesting; I wonder if it's not a flare artifact. I've seen it in a few other shots I've made.
