grab bag of beautiful decay

A decaying shipyard in Australia: http://patrickboland.com.au/project/index.html "As a photographer, I'd be like a kid in a candy store in this place," says Bob.

seeking the perfect everyday camera

After reading about the leica M9, I thought about my ideal camera, which would be an amalgamation of a number of cameras I've used through the years. here's what I've come up with. the M9 comes close, but there's no way I could afford it right now.

another viewfinder in my future?

my brother-in-law gave me a rollei 35S for my birthday last year. he (or rather his dog) discovered it in his hedge, after believing it had been stolen during a burglary many years ago. despite the years of bushy exposure, (luckily it was still in its case,) it was still in basic working order. I ran a roll of film through it, decided I needed the light meter fixed, and paid ~$100 for some professional CLA. I've been using it sporadically ever since.

feeding the old film habit

there aren't very many places to develop 110 or 126 film any more. my local fred meyer's used to handle development, leaving me to manually scan, but they recently remodeled and got a new fancy film developer, so no more 126 or 110. I'll have to do some research and see if that's truly the case, but until then, I'll have to give Blue Moon Camera and Machine in North Portland a try.

Worldcon

sure, Ctein has all sorts of shots of rockets and inner-space planetscapes, but one of the shots of his that grabs me the most is Ivy on Brick Wall, George Eastman House, Rochester NY -- 1978. the computer version doesn't really do the dye sub print justice. the contrast is so deep you feel like you're going to fall in. I can't really justify putting down $1k on the larger prints, but since I haven't forgotten this shot since seeing it at the last worldcon I went to, I figure I can at least get an 8x10.

photo gallery generator that doesn't suck

looking photo software. must suck less than bins, iphoto, gallery, flickr, ...
