bad caps strike again

I swear I posted this before but I can't find it... I have two motherboards with verified bad caps, and another that is suspect, although none of the caps are visibly bulging.

I need 21 of these for the dual PIII machine:

the via C3 needs some too, but I'd need to take the machine down to find out for sure.

I think the suspect slot-A athlons may just be out of luck, and need to head to freegeek for recycling. it really is too bad; I think they represent an important evolutionary point in x86 architecture. I guess I could bring home the old machine "lauri" from work, which is 1GHz, I think an early model Thunderbird.

Update, 2010-04-03

the PIII machine is loaded in the car. I just can't justify saving it, not with a dual PIII rackmount at work if I ever care to make space for it. I hope the spirit of Ben can forgive me; I did put it to use for a while. that should count for something?

The C3 continues to work, even with bad caps. I guess the improved heatsinking I added to it cuts the power demands.
