East Portland Traction CompanyRead an email on the PNWR mailing list about a green goat coming through town. I missed it as it came through Tigard, and wanted to see what route it was taking to its destination in Salem, so I looked at a PNWR route map. In small letters and greyed lines is "EPTC", the East Portland Traction Company. The story of EPTC seems to be a roller coaster of ups an downs, and it was down by the time I arrived in Portland in 1994. I hiked along EPTC's springwater corridor from Reed to Sellwood to attend church, and was always curious why SE Reed College Place has an empty half-block in the middle. These are the remnants of Portland's streetcar and rail history. Continuing to read Craig Bass' pages on EPTC, he has plans for modeling EPTC including yard diagrams. I pass by what's left of the east side yard on my way home from work, and have a friend who works on the SPS700 which runs on the leftover branch that runs from East Portland Jct to Milwaukie.
